Connecting People to Jobs: Supporting Workforce Development Success Podcast
Workforce organizations need a variety of tools to meet the needs of the populations they serve. Veterans, in particular, are in the spotlight as many struggle to translate their valuable military skills to private sector jobs. It is also a challenge for workforce development, education, and economic development to thoroughly understand local labor markets at both micro and macro levels so that programs are aligned to business needs.
Monster’s Veterans Talent Index, Military.com Jobs site, and its Real Time Labor Intelligence empower WIBs to communicate better with business and industry by identifying trends and local information that help fill jobs and get people back to work. Listen to NAWB CEO Ron Painter as he talks with Susan Fallon, VP Global Strategy & Business Development, Monster Government Solutions, and Bruce Stephen, Director of Real Time Labor Information Research for Monster Worldwide, in a discussion of how WIBs can better engage employers, veterans and other jobseekers they serve by arming themselves with readily available tools and information. As Demand for STEM Jobs Continues to Climb, STEM Skills Gap Widens Among Diverse Workers
In recognition of the value that a diverse workforce brings to business today, Monster.com asked Harris Interactive, a leading market research firm, to conduct research that examines the importance of diversity recruiting in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematical (STEM) professions. The structural shortages, uncovered in our qualitative research, are derived from a variety of factors including candidate location, cultural barriers within diverse communities that include a paucity of role models in STEM occupations, as well as a lack of discussion of these professions in the communities’ educational environments. The Missing Links In Hiring Reform―Finding Top Talent
During Operation Iraqi Freedom, the Department of Defense (DoD) underwent its largest growth period since the Vietnam War. Now, the DoD hiring paradigm has again shifted. It is no longer about finding enough people to support a war effort, but rather about finding the right people to manage a smaller, leaner effort. The DoD has undertaken several initiatives to improve its hiring process and it is off to a good start. To continue improving, it should take two very critical next steps. Download the Government Business Council issue brief here to learn what the two critical steps are.
